Teaching men in a generation of boys

Book Cover

Confessions

Author: St. Augustine or Augustine of Hippo
Publisher: N/A
Category: Authority, Self-Control

Synopsis: Augustine of Hippo is one of what we would call our “church fathers.” He was born in 345 A.D. and lived until 430 A.D. He was a man who fought against the teachings and moral standards of Christ until Jesus won the war in 386 A.D. He then became a reluctant, yet powerful pastor and theologian whose ideas have stirred the thoughts and actions of some of Christianity’s heroes of the faith. This classic work, Confessions, is a unique book because it is his autobiography written to God.

Value: Confessions is a literary and theological treasure that should be found in any Christian leader’s library. He writes it in a style that looks very much like a modern-day diary or journal. Aspiring men will get a rare glimpse into the thought and devotional life of a man who truly wanted to be pleasing and useful to God. There are many versions and translations of his book so we will not recommend one edition over another.
