Category: Church, Wisdom

Synopsis: Our culture is constantly changing, and one of these changes has affected our churches. This change, known as the “emerging church movement” has been a source of challenge and frustration for Christians, depending upon whether a believer views the movement and good or bad. D. A. Carson, who is a well-respected theologian and scholar, has taken the time to review this movement by questioning its assumptions, laying it over the filter of Scripture, and seeking to find its value in our world today. His conclusions are not entirely negative or positive, but challenging nonetheless.

Value: By now, most churches have had to wrestle with the doctrinal issues being pressed by adherents of the emerging church movement. As a man in the church, you will need to wrestle with these issues, and Carson’s work will provide you with a scholarly frame of reference that is less emotionally charged and more biblically founded. In fact, it is hard to find a book by Carson that is not worth an investment of your time and energy to read.
