Another busy week awaits and I’m looking forward to it. On the site, we’re going to focus on an issue this week that has been resurfacing in an aggressive manner among my colleagues, students, and self: being overwhelmed. I’m seeing a lot of stooped shoulders, empty stares, and stressed out people at this time of the semester, and I’m feeling the weight of having more to do than I do time to do it. How do we handle this circumstance?

Before we get into the issue of stress, overload, and rest, let’s look at some articles that provide food for the brain (and hopefully heart):

“The Costume Kingdom” by Paul Tripp

I know that the mustache has fallen upon hard times, but Paul Tripp is one of those guys whose look argues for its resurgence. Whether you like it or not, the man can grow a fearsome stache. His article for Desiring God is an excellent reminder for us to guard ourselves from idols. If we think that we do not have idols in our lives, we’re deceived. Be aware of that which competes in our hearts for the glory of God.

D. A. Carson comments on the value of genealogy passages in the Bible. We’re probably all tempted to skim or skip these portions of Scripture, but we’re doing ourselves a disservice in taking such action.
