How We Treat The Bible
As our statement of beliefs explains, we believe that the Word of God is complete, without error, and it is the supreme authority for life itself. In other words, we value the Bible more than any written resource that has and ever will exist. That being said, you might find that our articles and content only seems to comment on Scripture. You might notice that Scripture is not posted in great quantities. We truly wish this were not so.
The modern versions of the Bible have all been painstakingly translated by hundreds of qualified scholars at great expense of their time and resources. As a result, the publishers of each version possess a copyright over their versions, and each publisher has restricted the capabilities for the amount of Scripture that can be posted online.
While we do not wish to make these publishers appear to be greedy or selfish, we do know that ministries like this are handicapped because we can only post 500-1,000 verses online before we violate copyright law. Getting permission is nearly impossible, especially for small ministries like this, so we must utilize other options.
Option #1:
We could, theoretically, spend years in creating a version of our own. This option has been utilized by ministries such as bible.org, but such a project would be beyond our current capabilities.
Option #1:
We could keep a running tally of our Scripture usage. As soon as a new article surpasses the maximum allowable amount of verses of a particular version, we could delete an older article. However, doing this would mean that our material on this site would be incomplete. Furthermore, some publishers also place a limit on the percentage of a book that can be used. This means that if one of us were to cover a book of the Bible over the course of several separate articles that we would eventually violate the copyright law.
Option #1:
For now, our approach will be to create links to online versions of Scripture provided by the publishers themselves. This means that you will need to open another tab or separate window to view the Scripture side-by-side with our articles. Though this approach is inconvenient, you can at least verify that our treatment of Scripture is fair, and we can operate with integrity. Some of these publishers will partner with online ministries after their web sites prove to be regularly used and created with a high degree of quality. Our prayer is that we can gather a base of support to reach that goal.
Our writing is not meant to be Scripture. We do not even think that we could say something better than God. Rather, we want to bring the eternal truth of God’s Word to bear on our current cultural context. Operating the way we are admittedly creates more inconvenience and work for you, but let’s be real. We have unprecedented access to the Bible compared to the men of past generations, so we really have no excuse for not doing what we must to read it, embrace, and live it with boldness!
We hope that you understand our position and we will work very hard to make sure that we can utilize the most effective and legal means to put the most important message to humanity, God’s Word, before your eyes and hearts.
